The royal baby has arrived!

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past 48 hours, then we’re sure you have heard the news. In addition to traditional media outlets, the social media world has taken this story to a whole other level. And, Twitter created more buzz than any television broadcast station possibly could.

The Twitterverse was on constant watch as to every detail that was happening with the impending arrival of the royal baby. There were a number of hashtags created and trending topics in a compressed period of time after the announcement.

At one point, the royal baby hashtags peaked 25,300 tweets per minute. At 4:00PM on July 22nd Twitter released a statement that there had been approximately two million mentions of the term “royal baby” from the time the announcement was made 24 hours prior. Twitter topics were still trending trying to figure out if the royal baby was a boy or girl and when everyone would see the little prince or princess.

At The Brandon Agency we love stories like these. It is amazing to see the affect that social media has truly had on everyday world news. It is a different way for the public to talk about news and hot topics going on. Twitter especially can keep the conversation alive and let everyone voice his or her own opinion.

One of the only downfalls is that Twitter can definitely change the news narrative. This is when rumors begin flying around and others don’t know whether to believe it is fact or fiction.

In our opinion, it is wise to use common sense when it comes to what you see on Twitter or other social media sites. If it sounds bizarre and doesn’t make too much sense, then there is a high probability it isn’t an accurate story.

However, we do believe that it is one of the best ways to see what the world is thinking and feeling when it comes to the latest news stories. The latest story still buzzing on Twitter is what the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will name their newborn son.

What do you think it will be?
