Are you feeling tired? Run down? Have you got the Facebook blues?

Well, you’re not alone.

A new study recently discovered that Internet users are suffering from an overload on social media from sites like Facebook and Twitter.

So much so that a great deal of users are looking for a vacation from social media.

MyLife.com (an online organization hub) recently dropped a study reveals social media users are becoming increasingly overwhelmed by the sheer volume of social networks and email accounts they manage. Currently, more than 50 percent of the users surveyed have already taken or have thought about taking a “vacation” from social networking in the past 12 months. As a note, the study was based on surveys of more than 2,000 adults, ages 18 and older.

Unimportant status updates/tweets/posts and a lack of time are the leading reasons for people wanting to get away from Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc for a while.

In total, more than 40 percent of adult Internet users manage multiple social networking profiles, and more than 50 percent belong to more social networks or visit their networks more frequently than just two years ago.

In addition, the average adult manages more than three email addresses (which is up from 2.6 a year ago).

Of those surveyed, 35 percent spend more than 31 minutes a day visiting social networking sites, and reading and responding to personal emails.

However, the break isn’t always so easy. According to the survey, most users are afraid of the consequences they’d face if they took a break. Approximately 60 percent of those surveyed said they’d experience anxiety as a result of missing an important event or status update Also, more than half report a fear of missing out if they unplugged.

We here at The Brandon Agency are not feeling such burnout. We fully understand the importance of social media in today’s society, but that’s not to say everyone shouldn’t take a day off.

Have you experienced social media burnout? If so, tell us your story.
